The Evenson cavity is used to excite microwave discharges in a large variety of gases from a few millitorrs to several hundred tons. The microwave input is through a standard "N" female connector. The cavity accepts a tube up to 14 mm diameter.
The discharge is initiated by a quick spark. To obtain the optimum running conditions the cavity has to be tuned. Two tunings are available one from the top, the second from the side. The forward and reflected power displays on the front panel of our 300 W microwave generator give help during the tuning (the reflected power has to be minimized).
The discharge can be checked through a slotted hole in a removable cap at the bottom of the cavity. The removable cap allows the cavity to be set up on existing gas systems.
